Hobonichi Review

After much anticipation, I finally received my Hobonichi parcel last evening!

Excuse the lousy photos as I was too excited to get rid of the packaging to touch the stuffs!!! And more to come…

I like it that they uses an extra packaging so I wouldn’t have to destroy the beautiful box! Most online retailer do not do that and you ended up destroying the beautiful box 😦
The outer packaging is in white with the simple black font of Hobonichi which is so sleek!

I love the box this year (okay I do not have other boxes to compare lol) but its in bright shiny yellow! So Hufflepuff! Yay. I generally do not keep boxes being an minimalist… But I think I have to keep this one. I keep all the hobonichi stuffs inside so its like christmas every single time when  I open it up ❤

Cool quote on the box. Lets fix things next year xD

So here they are – the hobonichi goodies ❤

Hobonichi Techo (English) A6 – Being an stationary lover, I have an idea of how small A6 is. I do not want A5 as I uses A5 planner before and its heavy and slight inconvenience for daily uses. Some days I don’t even want to bring it out. But maybe because the paper was too light. It made the planner look smaller than what I have expected. I am very tempted to get the Japanese version lol cos the Japanese wording is like so beautiful. I can read like 5% cos some words are similar to Chinese. But the cover of the English version is much nicer looking xD
Soda Dots cover – It looks more beautiful in real life. After watching Hobonichi Live on Sina weibo last Saturday, I knew that I would love this cover and I have like 3 others on my wishlist lol I picked Soda Dots as I wanted to go with something more special rather than the plain looking covers ones.
Cover on cover  (Tokyo, Paris Alphabet) – I picked this two and didn’t get “Light”. I always love Paris so “Paris Alphabet” was an obvious choice. “Tokyo” looks nice on Soda Dots from their FB photos. But “Light” doesn’t seems that nice on Soda Dots. I didn’t take a photos of them. Perhaps I would be more excited when I start to set up the planner. I never use an Cover on Cover on all other organisers/planners before so it is something new! I thought they would like flimsy but they are quite thick PVC. So its not easily spoil! I hope!!
Stencils – I decided to pick up 2 stencils since I am terrible at drawing. They were quite pricey but branded as Hobonichi. I can probably get similar ones at Taobao at a cheaper price. They are however quite soft so I hope that they don’t break!
Weekly Calendar – This would be useful on days where I am lazy to bring the whole planner 😀 Being me, I know some days I will just neglect my planner :S
Zebra Mildliner – I used this before and love it. They are very different as they are more lighter in colour whereas staedtler highlighters are very brighty! I have also started to discover how useful highlighters are when doing planner this year. After calculation, they seems cheaper to get online (!!!) than getting from stationary stores. So I decided to buy a pack.

Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchases. I absolutely cannot wait for next year to come so that I can kickstart my new planner ❤

Now for the ordering experiences…

It was my first year ordering so like everyone else, I jumped into ordering on the first day. I didn’t know what I was expecting as I don’t want the cover(s) that I wanted to be sold out. (It was later then I realise I could have waited as my cover wasn’t one of those popular/sold out). So I took 55 minutes with multiple trying and refreshing to get the order processed. The experience is indeed very frustrating. I totally understand how some people feels especially if after multiple attempts, the stuffs they wanted are sold out! If I didn’t have much patience (:D especially when I am doing online shopping!!). I was lucky that I have a holiday on that day so I can sit in front of my MacBook to patiently place my orders. I tried to order everything at one go but my cart keep getting refreshed. In the end, I decided to order only the cover and it works better. I was checking out 55 minutes later. Then it took me multiple re-tries within the next few hours (I was doing some other things) to check out the rest of the orders.

Will I order on the release day again next year? Maybe or maybe not. It really depends on …Tokyu Hands. They will be bringing in Hobonichi this year but it will only be in early/mid October. (Which is why I decided to buy online as I cannot wait being the first year!!) If their range is okay and price is reasonable, I would probably get from Tokyu Hands next year??

Real Simple

I have subscribed to the digital version of Real Simple in my old iPad Mini. And I really enjoyed it… So I was super excited that I was able to get this through an local vendor. (yay!)

After deducting the discount, it costs nearly thrice as much! But I still prefer the idea of flipping through a physical copy of an magazine…

Bullet Journal & how it works for me?

I have heard of Bullet Journal but never get around to understand it until a few days ago. I am not going to explain about Bullet Journal as there is so much info from googling.

Now I am going to talk about how it will works for me? I have not started on it yet but I will do so in the next couple of weeks on an old moleskine that I have ditched!

My problem – Too many notebooks and too many information everywhere! I have too many notebooks (oops!) and information are everywhere… I tried digital (GoogleDrive), numerous apps, notebooks etc.. Some “projects” that I was planning ended up uncompleted. Notebooks written for a few pages and it was then ditched. One of which I am re-starting was an expensive (!!) Le Petit Prince Moleskine hardcover! With BuJo, I can consolidate everything into a single notebook! The problem with a planner is there is no flexibility in adding pages. I know, there is Midori Traveler. But I will not get it as it’s against what I believe in (No animal thing for me :)). I did do some planning with a fauxdori but I never likes it as the space is too small.
Then I would have excuse to buy new stationaries (HAHAHA!)…
There is not right or wrong on how you manage your BuJo which is great for me. I am still going to keep a planner (Of cos! I just spend $113 on a new Hobonichi + accessories!!) so I am not going to do the monthly or daily things.

03 September 2017

It has been a long time since I do a random post!

So here it is…

Journal
I have been attempting to keep up with my journal (as usual). I always love Kikki K’s 365 but the price put me off. I found an cheaper alternative from Taobao but I am still not updating it daily. I always say this but next year, I would try to do it on a daily basis. In the meantime, I would just write whenever I feels like to.

I have been watching too much soap!
I am currently watching a old soap of mine. I loveeeee that soap when I was in still in school but school have prevented me from watching it properly. I been wanting to catch up on it for several years and found it online a few weeks ago. It is addictive as I know all the characters so well. At the same thing, I seen things from a new angle. I realise that it has becoming too addictive a couple of weeks back and have since implemented a system where I watch it on alternate days. This allows me to work on other tasks and hopefully be more efficient!

I finally cancelled my HP subboxes!
I was very determined to cancel the Lootcrate ones as they are rather trashy. I was never satisfy with any of the box with the amount of money put in. Although it was licensed products, but they look simply cheap looking. GeekGear is abit hard to let go as they generally have better products (Although one month I received some childish rubber band and silicon mold which I would never use – safety concern!) I delayed the cancellation by skipping the next renewal but I decided it was enough. I wasn’t particularly excited for the box that I received. I forgot to skip the month! It was good but I have too much of the similar products – tees, posters, enamel pins.. It was just too much for a learning minimalist! So I pulled the plug a few days and feels happy!

But I subscribed to a new box!
My purchase of a new planner regain my interest for stationaries as I am so excited to for the new year to start writing. One of the accessories I stopped myself from buying is the Hobonichi memo pad. I decided that Field Note (which I always wanted to try out) would fit in the need. So I came across their subscription packs which seems too intriguing for me! Before I knew it, I purchased the subscription box and 2 packs of the limited edition packs (to save on shipping ha!). I would keeping them for next year to use along with my new hobo 🙂 I know I have many notebooks but I do not have compact ones to slot into the hobo cover.

Minimalism Efforts
I have been reducing my wardrobe. It hasn’t been easy but I try to get rid of clothes slowly! What I do is pack the clothes I do not wear in a box/plastic bag but I do not throw it away immediately. But I would throw it after a few days. This would allows me to realise that the clothes are useless to me since I don’t wear it.

I have a dilemma for books. I have dig out two stacks of old novels that I do not want to keep. But as a bookish person, I find it hard to get rid of it.

Other than that, I am still working hard at NOT SPENDING on unnecessary thing. I keep reminding myself in my planner etc.

Got my new planner

Hobonichi Techo (English) with Soda Dots

IMG_9204

It took me about 55mins to place order! Originally I have a few items in my cart but like everyone else, I couldn’t check out at all due to server’s error. So in the end, I decided to keep one. After all, the planner itself is much important. The accessories would be unlikely to be sell out. That’s when I decided on get Soda Dots. Originally I couldn’t decide on Canary or Soda Dots. But I decided to get something special.. as chances are Canary would be available at Tokyu Hands. (I might get one if I do see them at Tokyu Hands.. They are not selling the covers separately but I might just use the Japanese version and give the English version to a dear friend. Or maybe I would get a Cousin for some crazy writing HAHAHA)

So after many retrying, I was finally able to check out and I was feeling sooo nervous when I check out. Because I am using an Debit Card! One of their old posts on facebook has mentioned that some Debit Cards do not work and they were not be able to help you.  But luckily I was able to check out!!

IMG_9201

Although I was feeling very frustrated at first with Hobonichi, but I am so glad for designing the webstore for allowing people to hold their shipment. So I am going to place my accessories when the website has lesser traffic.
I also do not have any issues at all when I was going through the checking out process. I was so worried that the error is going to come back to haunt me and I have to go back to retrying.

However, I still feel that they could have prepared for it better. Their planners are getting more and more popular so…

If I wasn’t so determined to get mine, I would have given up and they will lose business from me.

Edited

I placed my accessories order too. There was abit of error but it went through!!! I could have wait for like a few days but I really just want to get it over with! Furthermore, I didn’t know when they would start shipping and I just want to get it ASAP! 😀 So my orders are all set!

Luckily it is an holiday today and I told my friends that “I am not free” as I know I would be spending my hours on this.

I guess you really need a lot of patience… to keep refreshing and re-trying!!

There is alot of angry people as they couldn’t get what they want (The bear cover and some leather covers… which I would not think of buying at all. haha!)

Planner for 2018

It’s time of the year again to think about my planner next year. This year, I uses a Moleskine as I recieved an voucher to use in a local bookstore. Being a local bookstore, there isn’t much choice. So I choose the reliable moleskine as I always like their notebooks and they have the print of The Little Prince which is one of my favourite!

Although overall the quality is good, but then its not something I would use again as I wanted to try others…

Kikki K
I always like Kikki K’s stuffs. They are so colourful and cute… but they are also pricey.
One of my criteria for a planner is it needed to be colourful so as I can be productive. (Motivation factor!!) Kikki K met the criteria.

Filofax or similiar (organisers)
I have not used a filofax but I have 3-4 similiar organisers from Taobao. An organiser is good because you can just remove the pages easily. Taobao and Etsy have lots of inserts which can be so fun to use.

Hobonichi
There is so much good reviews on this planner. It would be release in the next week or so.. so I planning to research abit more on this planner over the weekends as I might be getting this!

Frankie
I used a Frankie in 2016 and I love it. The only problem is the space is too small. But nowadays I don’t do extreme planning so space is no longer a problem for me. I find Frankie planner are super good quality as they use really good quality paper. But the planner is quite thick? So its not easy to carry if I uses a smaller bag.

Personal Planner
I still loves customisation ❤ Personal planner have the function and yet its not as bulky as others (Plum, EC etc).

Divination Planner (ETSY)
This is an harry potter inspired planner. I know!! It’s soooo perfect!!

Planners that I have used and not like it:
Passion Planner – Beside the fact that the kickstarter project was delayed, the space in the planner was too small to write. I would never consider them again due to bad experiences with the company itself. But personally I find the planner is too plain
Plum Planner (Etsy) – Originally I thought BIG planner would be so fun. But I ended up not using majority of the pages so I never look at big planner anymore. I have not try Erin Condren or Day Designer but I doubt they would be much use to me.

18 June 2017

Wow it has been so long again!!

I tried posting a few times but the post somehow seems to be stuck at “draft” like forever.  But anyway, It is high time that I try to post something again….

Random stuffs that probably do not make sense to anyone but me 🙂
1) Work is fine. But I am feeling a bit stressful… But I hope it would ease up next week.
2) I (finally) cancelled my subscription to both LootCrate & GeekGear. I skipped the renewal for GG. But I am quite sure that I would cancel it eventually. I received way too much shirts & they are not useful to me as I don’t wear shirts as much nowadays! It is just wasting space in my wardrobe. Another problem with them is the quality of the items. So far, I am not very impressed with any of them. GG is generally better but I felt the value is just not quite there since I paid so much for shipping. The desire to own more HP-related merchandise was a lot less strong now.  WELL, I still have not get my illustrated books. So I would probably save up for that instead 🙂
3) I am watching an old show from Hong Kong’s TVB. Really old. Like 10 years old. So from watching the show, I realise that I have forgotten the joy of going to the shopping malls to shop. The characters in the show likes to shop in a physical mall as technology wasn’t so advance back then. I have mentioned that I tends to avoid shopping malls as I didn’t want to buy things that I don’t use. And I am such a avid online shopper – I even buy my stationaries online! But as my mindset begin to change, I would be able to resist temptations to buy things that I do not need. I am able to walk through the shopping mall without buying anything! So it is no longer a “threat” to me. Now I enjoy walking shopping malls whenever I need to buy something. Perhaps It is better to feel and touch the product before buying.
4) So in the recent weeks, I have been discovering Happiness through Action for Happiness. I quite enjoy the course as it bring new perspectives to things. One particular thing that I have learned is meditation. It is something I never thought of doing or thinking about. Perhaps I would plan my time and incorporate it into my daily life!
5) I finally found an alternative to Kikki K’s 365! Despite being so in love with Kikki K’s stuffs, but I couldn’t bear to spend much there as they are very expensive. I mean I love stationaries but spend $20-$30 on a notebook is insane! So I found an cheaper alternative from Taobao (of course!). So once it arrive, I would do what I have been wanted to do…. Journaling everyday!
6) I have been trying (and unsuccessfully) to wake up early… hmm I read that it is important to do some exercise before you start your day. I have been feeling less energetic for the past couple of weeks. In fact, I have slept earlier than I usually do. I suspected that it is due to the fact that I am not as active as I should be.
Nevertheless, I have made a point to walk back home from the train station after work. So I am walking for about 15mins each day. I am happy with the achievement. But I hoping to do more.
7) My spend tracking has failed. But then, I barely spend much these days…
8) Now for my favourite topic… As always, I would try to minimise as much as I could. It works at times but it doesn’t work at times. Of course, I always train myself to differentiate with “need” and “want”. Ultimately, it is only things that I need should be purchased. But then it isn’t an easy tasks since buying things online is so easy 😦 I am also actively clearing my wardrobes… so if there is any thing that I no longer want, I would throw away. And I really need to keep an wishlist!
9) How can I forget to mention this!!! Downton Abbey Exhibition!!! Yes I am such a big fan!!! I purchased the tickets on the first day when it has started selling… I am going next Monday!! I am super excited (of course)….  😀
