Poppin is my dream stationary…. I will go for Pink, Pink, Pink! Maybe a bit of Mint too! I loves the minimal and simple concept. If only I didn’t have soon much pens at home!

Everyone can minimise!

Some people think minimalism is a huge concept with complicated process. I admit that it is not easy to change your shopping habits, lifestyle and your thinking process…. I am still learning! But everyone can do it.

Here’s some really basic concepts that you can apply:
1) Start with really basic daily necessity – it could be something like toothpaste. My dad likes to buy at least 10 tubes at one go. Instead of doing that, you can cut down to 8 tubes, then 4 tubes, then finally 2 tubes! It is highly impossible we are going into war. So don’t stock up.
2) An colleague of mine has a habit on stocking up on… shoes! She always buy a few of the same shoes when she find them very comfortable. The trick about shoes? You do not need so many pairs if you get good ones! My favourite slipper/flip flop is always Havaianas – Believe it or not, I have one for a few years and its still good to wear!
3) Check your house instead of buying on impulse. especially for stationaries. I used to have a lot of stationaries lying around and I just buy new ones because I forget that I already had them!
4) This is something I am still learning 🙂 – You do not need some many cases or covers for your phone. You only have one phone. Buy a really pretty skin and go naked…. (for your phone I meant!) So you spend $40 instead of $400!
5) Reuse, Reduce and Recycle – Re-use what you have, Reduce on what you have and Recycle what you have.

Review – Holga Camera dot com

So as mention, I was looking for a Holga camera which is very uncommon now. A lot of shops used to carry them but that was a few years back.

I came across two websites – Holga Direct vs Holga Camera. In terms of range for Holga, Holga Camera have a full range of products. They are also based in HK which is where the Holga company is based in! And free shipping to me…So I picked Holga Camera.

So after deciding for a few mins, I placed my first order with Holga Camera. I am not saying their website is not legit. But I am a careful shopper, I only shop from places like Amazon (Big company) or on trade/sale platform such as Qoo10 (where I can rate the sellers).  So I wanted to “play safe” by paying through paypal and opted for register mail. A check on their Facebook show that they are still quite active and based on my experience, yes they are a legal site.

It takes them only one day to process my order! And I was provided the tracking code, so I was able to track my order throughout. It took me 12 days (including weekend) to receive it. I received it in a box. I ripped off the package as I was so excited and I was going out for lunch.

They were safely packed in bubblewrap!

A closer & unfiltered look on my new Holga 135BC with matching flash…I got some films so that I wouldn’t find excuse.

The first thing I did was to look at the manual and I took a couple of shots at my office…

I am on my 4th exposure and very excited to see if any of my films turn out good.

Planner for 2016

Earlier this year I learnt that NOT having a planner is like you are missing something. I felt lost, disorganised and having major disruption to my life! So It is very important to have a planner to keep my life organised! It is NOT crazy to think about a planner for next year now even though it is only September! I am safe as I not only have a planner but I have 5!

Customise Planner – Plum Paper Planner, Erin Condren
I am going to talk about Plum Paper Planner only as I only have experience with it. But the concept of EC is very similar.  I absolutely adore my Plum Paper Planner. It is useful and allow lots of space for writing. You can customise it by including your name, selecting the month to begin and decide on your layout. Want something even more special? PPP also is very flexible in adjusting the colour scheme. Just leave them a note in your order and they will do it for you without any charges. So you will have something really special! They have different add on which allow you have extra pages, more to-do etc!
Personally, I would say this is the planner if you are planning to plan out your activities day by day and writing extensively to-do is your kind of thing. However if you are not the kind of person who would write a lot of stuffs, then it might not be very worth it. The cost might be wasted if half the planner is filled. It is afterall not re-useable. The planner itself is rather heavy and bulky. So for people who don’t like bringing a big bag everyday, it should also be an important factor to consider. Other than that, it takes 3-4 weeks to process and the shipping isn’t exactly cheap due to the weight. But it is worth every cents!

For a cheaper option, you can consider personal planner. They allows you to customise your cover and choose the pages etc. If you have a cool design, you can upload and request them to print. So go wild on this. They ship worldwide for free.

Frankie Diary
I always want a Frankie Diary. I adore this magazine company. I buy their magazines once in awhile although not all the times.   The graphic they used in the diary are always illustrated and designed by illustrators. So its rather unique.

They always ran out quickly so when I saw that it was available for pre-order, I jumped into buying one without seeing the inner page. I know it will not disappoint me. More information when I receive it!

Filofax or similiar – Kikki K, LoveDoki
I never had a Filofax but they seems a bit too dull for my liking. A brighter version from Kikki K attracted me. But their time planner is always in leather. But this year, they made a nylon one called cute which is oh-so-cute. But I don’t need a forth planner or fifth one – if you count the one I had at work. I will get one in 2017! I will!

Another animal-friendly alternative is a china brand called LoveDoki. They comes in a variety of colours, shapes and material. They launched an canvas version which is so beautiful. But again, I do not need another planner. In fact, I have 3 such planners at home. They even have a English friendly website which anyone who don’t understand Chinese. But I prefer to order from the source at Taobao. If you are lucky like me who can understand the beautiful Chinese language, there are also a few other brands on Taobao which you can consider. I have compared 2 other brands against LoveDoki in my previous post.

Now here’s a very good advantage of using such planner. If you selected the leather material, it may last a good few years. If you choose cuter ones from Kikki K or LoveDoki, it may last you 2-3 years or more. So you are only getting the refill for the same planner. The good thing about selecting your one planner from the wide variety of China brands is that you can mix and match around. You can use the refill on the other brands. They always come in standard size of A6 or A5. I don’t know if they can be mix with Kikki K or Filofax. But I suspect they do. But anyway, you can get a one-hole puncher and adjust if you are not fussy about being very tidy. Other than that, you can also easily customise your planner according to what you want. Dividers, customise refill and accessories – such as pocket to store your washi tapes are always out there. You can also easily move the papers around so when you get sick of the planner. Buy a new one and use back the refill. No waste! This is the planner for you if you want to be free and be wild about what you can do…

Midori or fauxdori
No introduction needed. The advantages of this is very similar to Filofax and the alternative. But it is way more compact and you can take it with you on travel too. I uses my faxudori for traveling. I don’t buy the authentic cos they are leather. Wish they made something more animal-friendly!

There are again a wide variety of faxudori seller which I have posted in my previous post. You can again get a nice selection of colour! And mixing around the refill is easy too!

To-do list

To-do list has kinda become an obsession of mine. Every day, I tried to list out as many stuffs as I wanted to do in the day.The task can actually something as simple as writing in my daily diary! which I reminded myself everyday 😉

Here’s some of what I have tried:

  1. Default reminder apps in iPhone – I just never got around to actual doing the stuffs! But this is good as you can view them on the go.
  2. Default calendar apps in iPhone – this is good if you want to add on task at a specify timing instead of a  general list. The popup notification is also good as it reminds you!
  3. Google document – Again, technology… after a few weeks, I got lazy! I created a document (something similar to word) and list out my to-do. But again, you can review them on the go!
  4. Wunderlist – There is plenty of apps out there. But Wunderlist was my favourite. I always look for something colour when I download an app. I had a good weeks with it until I had some synching problems and I stopped using.
  5. Planners – While I went through a few planners, my current favourite is Plum Paper Planner from Etsy. It is heavy but I feel very satisfying in listing a lot of to-do and actually doing it!

In conclusion, I am more of a paper and pen person. I find working with paper and pen helps to achieve my to-do much more efficient than technology. No matter whether it is a calendar, a simple reminder app or something as complicated as a word document, it is still something not quite working for me.

Weekly roundup – 14 Sept to 20 Sept

I had a good week!

I had an interview last week. It went well. I am making a portfolio today for the interviewer and soon, I might be landing in a  new job ha!

Minimalism, productivity
I do hope that the haze will clear off totally cos it is bringing my productivity down. But I had a couple of hours last Friday to do some writing at a busy restaurant (during lunch) and at the library. Busy restaurant is obviously not ideal to do writing cos it is pretty noisy. Some of my neighbours were talking very loud. Oh well, this is after all a restaurant. It is probably good for a lunch or coffee catch up. But it’s not a good place to write. Library is of cos much more quiet. But I never like library. You know some people can spend hours in the library studying or reading? I could never do that. It is quiet and with air con…. But I don’t know its after all a public place! Maybe if they start having a small cafe where people can get coffee then I would probably like it more. I still prefer to write in a cafe!

Writing with milk tea? Not much success! Still prefer coffee!

On the other hand, I feel like the productivity of my planner has finally gone up! I am planning in advance (for most days anyway!). So I am doing more stuffs! Yay!

Other than that, I have been busy working on my itinerary for an trip to Hanoi, Vietnam in 3 weeks time…. The reason why I took up the task of working on the itinerary is simply because I don’t want ended up being disorganised and not knowing where to go! I am looking forward to tour the city with my cameras! I might be bringing just 3 cameras as we are not taking budget airline! There is alot of luggage space! I am rather looking forward to it as most cities I have visited are so like Singapore with high rise building. But Hanoi might be so different. We are intending to spend 2 days at the bay area. I love the sea! It is so beautiful ❤ It was too cold when I went to the sea at Sydney, Australia but its beautiful!

I just found out yesterday that my mobile contract plan has ended! Which means I can get a new phone soon! I am of course eyeing at the upcoming iPhone! I think I would get the regular size as I hate big screen! I don’t play games or watch (long) video on my mobile, so I am fine with the small screen. There is probably nothing much exciting updates if you own an iPhone 6. But I am using a iPhone 5S so it would be an exciting new phone 🙂

I sold one item last week. It is amazing! I finally met one buyer who didn’t bargain for price and meet me at the train station of my house! I sold it for 50bucks. Ironically I spend 50bucks to get a Diana F+ camera on the same week! HA!

I received my new fujifilm instax mini 8 in the mail. I choose the new raspberry colour as it is after all a newer colour. It is less bright in real life though! I am going to write in more details along with all the other cameras! But I couldn’t wait to share them!

I took my first photo at Ron (The vinyl figure from Funko!). It is honestly not good but it isn’t bad at all! The mistake I made with my already-dead Instax 7 is that I took a few photos and they all sucks. Then I threw the camera at one side until it quietly dies. I am determined not to make the same mistake again! Practice make perfect!
I took a photo of my 2 years old niece today and I was very happy that she was super excited to see her photos! She ran around the house showing everyone. It is a better photo.

(I should say especially :D)
One thing I love about instax mini is the choice of films and they always have new designs. But it is not quite cheap! So snap with cautious!

And yes I bought another camera!

(Error on the photo: It should be dreamer not daydreamer!)
It was only sold on! And of cos it has been discontinued. It is 12 years old but its new!
I will talk more about this. I need films. Most likely I would pop by the Lomography embassy store tomorrow although I am not quite sure if they sell films. HA! And also I need a flash!

I am still waiting for my Holga & my 4th camera from Taobao – cheap one that costs less than $10!
In the meantime, I am trying not to buy camera! Especially toy camera!

Review – Passion Gadgets (Singapore)

Last week, when I found out my old Fujifilm instax camera is spoil. I decided to get a new one! I am going to talk more about the buying decision and the camera itself in a separate post! Now I am posting a review of the company that I have purchased from!

Previously I purchased from a Korean seller. But I was happier to find a local company dealing with the camera at a decent price. They are much more cheaper than retail shops so this certainly attracted people. You would get 30%-40% saving.

By some mistake, I thought my camera was not working so I went to their showroom/office/warehouse which is located in the Ubi area. For people who is familiar with Ubi, the office is not hard to locate. Whereas for people who hate Ubi, never visit Ubi and is not quite familiar with map, I had a minor problem. But I managed to locate the office using… Google Maps of course! Ubi is like a better version of Tuas. But I work in the City. So I do not like that place!

For buying the stuffs online, you do have option to pick up from their office. (Don’t understand why people want to do that!). Its opened Mon to Sun so it is rather convenience for people like me. You do not have to take leave to visit their office.

Anyway the office is very lively. You would see it when you reach their floor. It is the brightest office in the building! 🙂 There was a few customers when I visited them. It is not big but they have a lot of products displayed for you to see. There are 2-3 laptops available for people to place order – save your data plan! They have 5-6 staffs working to serve customer at the front. It wasn’t like what I expected. I was expecting only 2-3 staffs. Then they have rows of merchandise displayed behind like a mini warehouse. You can see they are really

So I stood behind as their counter staffs are busy. One aunty called me and ask me if I need any help. While the aunty looks very friendly, but she do not seems to be knowledgable about the products – at least not the camera. Then she called to the other guy to help me. It turned out to be just the battery problem. It was disappointing but I blamed myself for not being careful. Anyway I went around the office to look at the merchandise and finally decided to purchase some films. I do not want to leave the place empty handed as it was like 20 MRT stops away from my home.

Originally I was very skeptical about using their laptop as I feel there is some privacy concern (I was totally right.  If you read on…) But I decided to use it anyway as I prefer browsing on actual laptop than mobile. I am the kind of person who uses my MacBook all the times.

So I was trying to set up an account. Then one of the staffs interrupted me. While I appreciated his kindness and help, but I find him a bit…. not quite service-orientated. He questioned on how I will make my payment. It is not the bossy kind of way but it is also not very polite (You know the politeness you expected from SERVICE/SALES line). But maybe it is just the way he talk. Then I told him by credit card. He told me there is a surcharge of %. Okay, so its via paypal! They do not have the option to deduct from your credit card directly. He kindly suggested that I uses Qoo10. So I logged on to Qoo10. Shortly later, he interrupted again and suggest he takes over to help me. Okay, again, I appreciated his kindness and help, but…. well, please read on!

He asked me to shown him the design so that he can purchase for me. Again, he was being very very helpful. He even suggested that I look at the display behind. Then finally I told him what I wanted. He placed an order for me, and then here’s comes the “creepy” parts….

He checked out for me. Then he selected my default payment which is by mastercard/visa. (Didn’t even ask) Then he ask me to take out my card. I was very uncomfortable with that. But anyway I did not have coffee this morning So not thinking properly. I took out and passed to him. He keyed in the CVV for me and he paid for me. He confirmed that he will log out for me. After that he guided me to the collection point.

On my way back home, I remembered about my unclosed tab which have not been logged out yet. I did thought about my personal details being divulged. But then I decided that the staff will probably clear off when the next person comes.

Imagine my shocked face when i receive an email for an order that I did not place! I quickly wrote a nice but straight forward email on the situation and why I feel very “invaded”. I am also very glad that my card details are not saved in the website. Someone responded and say he/she don’t understand… and I did not place the order? Well, my email is typed in plain simple english. I do not know what to say! I really hope that this is just an one-time off minor incident. I have since reported to my bank and will get an replacement card. But I think PG should be more mindful of their personal data policy especially now we have a PDPC in place.

So in conclusion, I did not have very positive experiences with their office. When you want to visit them, it is better that you place order online or uses your own mobile. However, their staffs are still very helpful in assisting customer.
