Carousell – Selling & Buying

Selling in Carousell is never easy. I have my fair share of “irritating” buyers that I have met for past few weeks:
1) Dead buyer. Always. But seriously they are like the better out of the rest I am going to list. At least they don’t bother me as much.
2) People who don’t read information provided. Listing state – “No meet-up”. PM and ask “where to meet up?”
I have explained in one of my previous post that why I don’t do meet-up. In short, it is time wasting and take lots of effort to achieve that. I don’t have time for all these.
3) People who likes to ask “available?” and disappear. Why are you even asking seriously?
3) People who ask for precise information and bug for discount. I normally say I will check and if they bug for discount, I will not bother to check as I know they are no longer interested.
4) People who bug for discount/ask if can be lower. I usually just say no as they irritates me. Honestly just send in your bid and I will response accordingly.
5) Buyer who lied about sending concealed cash. Turned out that this particular buyer has been lying (based on her feedback). I seriously don’t know what is her problem and what is she trying to achieve. Maybe she is hoping some newbie seller who don’t know how online selling works actually posted her “purchase” to her.
6) People who bugged you to sell to them at your offer price even after you declined an offer. Her reason is that she offered 10bucks more than the retail price. (Well I am selling a limited edition item which is different from the retail store and it is not releasing yet. Although I do not have it yet but I will have it before they start releasing it. So I don’t know what is her problem). I have to tell her straight in the face that I am not selling to her at that price before she stop bugging me.
So in conclusion, you have to have lots of patient because there is really all kinds of people out there. Good news is I do not sell full time. I have only made two transactions so far but it doesn’t really bother as I have my full time job!

Buying from carousell on other hand is much much fuss-free I suppose. Unlike many people who likes to browse the app and “like” stranger’s listing (when they bored on trains :P), I do not browse the app at all.
I made an exception last week and made my first purchase which is…. luckily very smooth!

Firstly why I do not browse the app. The app is good and have easy classification. But I don’t buy things especially second-hand. It is some kind of principal that I developed since young. Sounds like a spoil child but its really something that I can get past with.
Furthermore I am developing my “minimalism” lifestyle so browsing and buying extra things is definitely a no-no. I am already stressed by the fact that I am tempted to buy things at the usual place – web stores that I sometimes visit and the mall. So I didn’t start that habit and therefore, I do not browse the app.

Last week, I decided to try to browse the app to look for something I needed to buy. I have two trips that I am taking in the June and I really need a water bottle. I do have a couple of water bottles. But they are either too big or they leak. So I really need to find one that I can bring it with me to travel. I first thought of Fred Bottle which I saw last year on Kickstarter. But it is too expensive and they haven’t start shipping yet. So I went online and google abit and came across the ones from Tupperware. If you heard of this brand, chances are you know it is much cheaper to get them from individual consultant. Carousell being an selling platform attracts many Tupperware consultant I guess.

So I purchased one from Carousell! I was so happy to find one in my current favourite mint colour. I bought two more for my parents. I got it mailed as I do not want to meet up. It took a few days but I guess that’s because our postal service is slow.

Review: China Brands Organizer/Planner

Previously I discussed about “Filofax/Kikki K” and how much I wanted it. But I decided not to purchase them due to various reason. But I am happy to find “filofax”/”Kikki K” alternative at Chinese giant online retailer, Taobao. With the help of two different agents, I got 3 organisers from 3 Taobao stores to compare and did a review.

All 3 stores manufactured their own brand of organisers, accessories and refills and judging from the reviews, they are equally popular among the Chinese buyers! As compare to many other brands that I have came across, they certainly attracted me with their wider range of colours! Furthermore, they are not expensive. And they are all made of non-animal products! 🙂

*All prices stated in this reviews are round up cost inclusive of local courier fee (from seller to my shopping agent),  international shipping by sea and shopping agent’s fee.

I have been using one of it as my home organiser for a few weeks now and I find it much useful. The reason for it is probably I no longer have scattered notes lying around! It helps to organise thoughts into one single place!

Store 1: Ben’z Store

First Look & Cost

“Fruit” Series, A5 Size, Watermelon Red SGD15 with 80 pages of refill
You can also get the organiser without the refills at SGD13 and A6 size are available at SGD10 or SGD8 (without refill).

The organiser is wrapped in a simple plastic bag with the store’s plastic carrier. It came with 80 pages of refill (shown in grey) including 20 pages of lines, square, dotted and To-do. The A5 planner weighs about 545g so it is rather light.

It includes 2 card slots, 1 full slot for stickers, post-it etc and a back pocket for paper.

The back of the organiser is another pocket!

Different from many organisers, this organiser uses a buckle instead of button. I am not quite a fan of buckle.
Not very useful when you are in a rush! But it would definitely be more secured.

The seller included a cardboard as a protecting for the metal clip.

The logo is shown at the side inside the organizer so if you are not a fan of huge logo, you will love this!

Other colours:

Olive Green

Lemon Yellow

I like a organiser that are not too plain and boring. Many organisers in the market are either in black, brown or red. And the inner page are also in the same dull shade. I was attracted to this organiser as the inner of the organiser is in a different colour which really bring out the organiser! The inner uses a canvas instead of PU leather which would probably extend the durability of the organiser.

Pen Loop with Zebra Sarasa Clip 0.5 French Casual & Zebra Sarasa Clip 0.4 x Rilakumma

I like that the pen loop is manufactured using canvas. This is something I have been looking for everywhere but couldn’t find. There are two pen loops in the organiser. It fits the Zebra Sarasa Clip nicely!

They are positioned in a way that they pen won’t hit against each other!

Paper quality
The seller stated their page are made from dowling paper. I haven’t never heard of such paper before. A google search shown that it is a type of paper which is more commonly used in commercial printing such as magazine, poster etc. Hence it is suppose to be high quality.

Tested using my Muji ballpoint pen. It shown that there is bleeding till the next page or so! So the paper isn’t that good I guess.

Store 2: Jamie notes

First Look & Cost

“Vintage” Series, A6 size, Dark Red SGD20 with 80 pages of refill
You can also get the organiser without the refills at SGD15 and A5 size are available at SGD25 or SGD20 (without refill).
It came with 80 pages of refill including 20 pages of lines, square, dotted and blank.

The organiser is shipped in a box.

A sentence of wisdom on the box 🙂

Other colour:

Black

The organiser has 6 card slots and a pocket.

The back is another pocket. The organiser have a protectors at the front & back to suppose to be for preventing marking.

The logo is imprinted at the back of the organiser.

I was so happy to see an organiser in my favourite red shade! There are alot of red organiser in the market. But they are either too bright or too soft. None have this beautiful dark red shade which I always love.  For this particular organiser, I prefer it to be covered in a full dark red shade 🙂

Pen Loop with Parker Jotter

There is only one pen loop which I uses to put my Parker Jotter. I uses this for my daily notebook hence I bring my favourite pen which is Parker Jotter 😉 The pen loop is in PU so it might not be that lasting as compare to the other 2 organiser.

Ruler & Divider
I also got ruler & divider from the seller as shown in the above picture. They cost about SGD2.00 each. The ruler is pretty flimsy. The divider is also similar to the paper divider available in the market so I wouldn’t say they are of really great quality type.

Paper Quality

Again the paper isn’t of high quality. My ballpoint pens including Parker Jotter bleed through. So I can imagine fountain pen have a bigger bleed 🙂

Store 3: Dokibook

First Look & Cost

I have introduced this organiser preciously. Now its time to do an official review!

“Personal planner” Series, A6 size, Purple SGD35 with 100 pages of refill, protector sheet, divider, ruler and organiser pocket
You can also get the A5 size are available at SGD23. It came with 100 pages of refill including lines, square, dotted and blank. There is no option for no refill.

Out of all 3 planners, this is easily the best choice if you want to look for something like Kikki K without the real leather. The reason being that they have a wide colour choices including Mint Green (I originally wanted to buy this. But my agent made an mistake so I got an alternative instead. Still depress whenever I thought about it. I have the urge to get it like every 2-3 weeks. But I keep stopping myself in time O__O) white, gold (Yes that gold!), pink, orange, yellow, dark blue and lime green. So it make organising extra extra fun and colourful.

The planner came in a box! So it seem like a gift 🙂

Look simply stunning for a organiser! I love the divider. It is glossy and rather thick.

The front have 6 cards slots + one packet.

The back pocket contains a extra horizontal slot which can be used for stickers 🙂

The imprinted logo is inside the organiser.

I cannot say how much I love this organiser. Firstly the seller included all the necessary stuffs – including ruler, protector sheet and the divider. So you do not have to spend any extra. Then The divider are so useful for organising my thoughts. On the down side, this planner is slightly heavier as compare to Ben’z Store so it is not really useful to bring out for an A5 size 🙂 Now I just need to resist buying the mint green one. I really want T__T

Pen Loop

The pen loop are against each other. I uses Pilot G-2 XS (No idea where this pen came from. Just found it lying around my house one day ;-)) and Platinum Preppy in my favourite shade of pink.

Paper Quality
There is no information on the paper quality but like the other two organisers, it will bleed through.

You can clearly see that the Dokibook ruler is much thicker and clearer to see.

As compared, there isn’t any marking on the divider for Dokibook whereas there is some marking on Jamie Notes. I flipped both organiser as often as each other.

Write down what you want to buy BEFORE buy anything at all.

One way to really minimalism is by not spending money to get new things. Of course it isn’t really possible in long term! 😀 Especially for a used-to-be-shopaholic like me! I must admit I have not progress to that stage of being really minimalism yet! One example is I still have lots of PENS! But I do feel that I am changing for some things like clothes, bags etc. One step at a time I guess!

The best way that I would recommend is to write down what you want to get and THINK over it before committing any spend. Now you might ask – What if its for something I really need it urgently? Something which you need it urgently should be manage in such a way that you purchase when it is running out. For e.g. – coffee which you always drink in the morning for breakfast. Buy one pack at one time. When it run really low, like left 3-4 packets, then it is time to buy! For such cases, I do not include them as it is already in a order/system. There are of course emergency cases which will be excluded from this process 🙂 For e.g. your shoe broke and you are on your way to an client’s meeting. Of course you need new one even though you may have a couple of shoes at home which can be easily replaced.

Now why is this useful? When you write down, you make a point to think! When you think, you wouldn’t spend unnecessary. You would really think if its a need or just something you want? Is it something that align with the minimalism you are trying to achieve?

A real life scenario: Last week, I was facing a shoe problem. I wore one of the worst shoe I have from Madden Girl. The reason I bought that shoe is that unlike Toms (okay the design is similar to Toms), it is all man-made! Anyway somehow the shoes is very slippery even when not on rainy day. I have been wanting to toss it away. Last week I wore it and it was raining heavily during lunch time. In normal case, I will walk slowly to the nearest place to get food and return back to my office. But on that day I was having a lunch gathering with a couple of colleagues. So I couldn’t miss. I survived a walk (15 mins) to the venue and back to my office (another 15mins). Phew. But that’s it! I am tossing it away as after nearly 5 hours, it is still not dry yet! On my way back home, I thought about shoes, shoes, shoes. The best way to replace is to get an handmade shoe. I was on the verge to order an vegan shoes online. But I stopped myself in time as it is also very expensive. But the main thing that stopped me is that I still have a few pairs of shoes around! I wished they were all broken so I can buy a pretty handmade vegan shoes though. But I guess not for the next few months or so. I had written all these down so I was able to make a  rational decision not to buy yet. In the past, I didn’t write it down anywhere. Instead I went online, clicked and ordered. So there isn’t any “decision making” process at all!

Simple beauty tools

There are so many beauty tools out there to make our life so much easier! Here’s are my favourites few:

Fringe cutter + stainless steel scissor aliexpress, USD4

There are various supplier on aliexpress that sell the same or similar product. They are about USD4-USD10 and they shipped almost worldwide! Mine is the pink version which comes with a  stainless steel scissor! This is a very simple tool. Use the clipper to clip to your fringe and then use the scissor to cut. This is great for people like me who loves to keep a fringe all the time. I do go to hairstylist once 3-4 months. But my fringe obviously grow faster. I find it a waste of money if my hair haven’t reach the length to cut yet. I used to ask my mum to cut for me. But it was a painful experience as she is really precise and nags a lot 😛 Now I am not saying I don’t like her nagging. But you know I just want to get over with it. She will work faster if she talk less! Anyway this tool is really not for perfectionist who want a saloon-standard cut. The cut turn out to be not that perfect. But I guess you could always trim after that!

Olay cleansing system watson, S$49.90

Of course I didn’t buy at Watson! Being a smart shopper, I went online and found a couple of cheaper deal on qoo10. I think I got it at 10bucks cheaper. But anyway, if you get from US, I think it would be even more cheaper.

Now I think all woman should own an cleansing system! Not every woman can afford Clarisonic obviously. But everyone should have something similar. I admit I have been lazy (this is the reason why I do not want to get clarisonic although I could afford it!). But this is nevertheless a great tool to clean your face.

Hair patch daiso S$2

This work just like a velco tape. So you just have to stick to your hair and you can hold it up. This is very good if you want to clean your face but your fringe is blocking. It is also good for makeup application!

Ped Egg aliexpress USD3

This is a simple and cheap tool to exfoliate your foot! It used to be release by the television advertising people. But now they have a new version. So it is no longer available. But I haven’t try out the new version. anyway I got this from china’s taobao and you can get it from aliexpress! I couldn’t find any supplier selling the new version.

Mysmoothlegs Mysmoothlegs, USD19.90

This is a natural hair remover. I haven’t use it for a long time as you can see it is not in the best shape 😛 But the last time I use it is very smooth. Personally I would prefer it rather than shaving. But shaving is much quicker!

It does matter where it is manufactured in!

My mum has this old kettle which she don’t want to throw away. It still works like a charm! After a few hours, the water are still rather hot! This morning I was chatting with her about her beloved kettle and why she keep it even though it is old. It turned out it was given to her by my grandmother. And she say it is this is a good product as it is Made in Japan. I looked throughout the kettle and there is a little printed sign that say Made in Japan.

I am indeed curious about the brand which is called Peacock. So I went online and google them. There is some product information. They have obviously moved on with their design after so many years. They no longer have this design that my mum have. But they have the usual colourful plain ones that many other vacuum bottle manufacturer have. 🙂 I was intrigued by their design and in fact, I was thinking of getting one!

To my delight, I found out they have a office in Shanghai now. So I went to Taobao and search. They have a shop on taobao. But much to my disappointment, they are now manufactured in China. I haven’t notice their products in the department store so I am not sure if all of their products are now manufactured in China.

Do not get me wrong. I have nothing against product manufactured in China! In fact I have this bottle that is manufactured in China by a local China brand. I uses at the office all the time! It is starting to show wear and tear. But it is still a beautiful bottle that function like what it is suppose to!

The difference between them is that the local brand is much cheaper. Although the Japanese brand is also manufactured in china, but somehow it is much more expensive than local brands. I guess it got to do with the brand itself. I know peacock is a much more reputable brand. But I don’t find a point to spend so much more for something where I can get it much cheaper. So it is really a different story if it is manufactured in Japan. Since we know how lasting that could be, I guess my mum or I wouldn’t mind to fork out much more money to get one. So it really matters where is it manufactured in!
