Weekly roundup: Second week of March

The last 3 posts are all aboutĀ shopping. So I figure I do a weekly roundup as I have NOT been just shopping! šŸ˜›

Minimalism, To-do etc
Now I really think a RIGHT cup of coffee is really important in order for me to work. This morning actually noon (My nieces were here in the morning so I wasted spend my morning with them), I tried a new brand of coffee which uses Stevia. I never heard of Stevia until Breaking Bad. So I thought I will tried since nobody will poison me huh. It turns out to be the worst cup of coffee I ever drank. It is strangely way sweeter than any instant coffee I had and it doesn’t taste like coffee at all. I drank half and pouredĀ half of it away. What. a. waste.

ThenĀ I was tired and wasted the afternoon doing some shopping. oops. And finally went to take a nap and woke up at 4pm and decided I need my real coffee. So I would probably stay up till very late tonight which is bad as I prefer waking up early.

anyway, back to the topic…Ā
I did clear a bit of stuffs last week. I couldn’t do anything today due to the above situation. So I will try to do some minimalism later or tomorrow morning!

I had a bad week so I didn’t do much planning towards the end of the week. But I probably will catch up tomorrow. Now I started to think again… Is it a good idea to plan out the day only on the night before? I like it because it is much flexible if there is an changes of plan. But if I am in a bad mood, had an sudden engagement, Chance are I would probably skip the planning :/ But then again, planning is just a plan… There is no need to follow it blindly. Oh well, anyway I would try planning in advance for the next week tomorrow.

My day off….Ā
I had an day off and went to the mall. I usually avoid the mall even on my day off but I was having a bad week. So I wanted to get out and enjoy….

I always started my day with a breakfast at MacDonald or KFC whenever I visited the mall in the morning on a weekday. Actually its more for the coffee than the breakfast itself. I will take my own sweet time sipping the coffeeĀ toĀ think and write. In this case, I wroteĀ about my career, my life and generally, everything!

After 1.5 hours or so, I will pack and get ready to… shop…

Nowadays, I am also keeping to a simple way of shopping by visiting only the shops I wanted. This is to minimise temptations to shop more than I needed to. But then again, It is always the best to avoid everything together.

I always visit only bookstores, Mark & Spencer, Muji & Uniglo.
For this trip I also went Tokyu Hand to see if there is any interesting there. I was immediately attracted by the range of stationaries but I was expecting much more. A bigger store maybe? I was expecting more pens and stamps. But the washi tape section is really big. I am not really into washi tapes.

I ended up with some stationaries! Believe me, this is really at a minimum level šŸ˜¦ My brain was working throughout the whole trip and I cut down A LOT. e.g. I wanted to get a new pen case (Attractive colours at Tokyu Hands) but I resisted. I didn’t buy any clothes though this means something šŸ˜€ I got some books too but didn’t take a picture. There is a need to support local bookstore once in a while or they will close down.

I couldn’t resist picking up a new preppy as they have designs in Hello Kitty!! which is super adorable ā¤ They have been around for a long time. But this is definitely the first time I am seeing it. Ā Oh well, I don’t care for pens that much last time. So I might not have noticed. It is much expensive than the regular ones. So I probably won’t be getting another one. I got a new Platinum Plaisir too. The label in the shop stated it as yellow but there was nothing yellowish about the colour. It is more like gold šŸ˜€ They are cheaper as compare to anywhere else so Tokyu Hands is a good place to get them! Yay for opening up Tokyu Hands in Singapore. Although it is smaller as compare to Japan, but I am happy to be able to get my stationaries.

I sawĀ Pilot Kakuno too. But NBC bookshop is selling them at a cheaper price. So I didn’t get it as I went TH after that. And I wanted to go home. Also I have so many other pens. This could be save for the next time.

I got the Panda stamp at NBC though. It’s for my planner. I also picked up an Midori Travellor Insert for an fauxdori I am waiting for. I will post details of it when it arrives. Both NBC and Tokyu hand carriesĀ the insert and the notebook itself. But I am only interested at the insert. šŸ˜› I don’t like leather notebook šŸ™‚

Work updates
So I had a bad week at work. If you read my “About Me” section, I have been thinking on a change in my career progression. Opportunity has arisenĀ at work but it wasn’t given to me as I didn’t have the necessary qualifications and skills. Sigh. I just feel so disappointed that people think that I am just not good enough for it. I put in so much efforts in giving the best effort in whatever I have done. But still, I am not good enough šŸ˜¦ Oh well, I cannot complain much as I would be given a pay rise soon. But I am definitely looking at other options.

ReadingĀ
I managed to finish Singapore Siu Dai 2 within 2 hours. It is still funny but I agreed that book 1 is much better. It is however really a must read for all Singaporeans. Ā Now I am reading Totto Chan. Totto Chan is the first english book that I really enjoyed. For a couple of years I have been wanting to get the book and re-read. I finally got it last Thursday as I have 10% off for membership. I finally can re-read my favourite childhood book! šŸ™‚ My other favourite childhood books are The Baby-sitters Club and Sweet Valley!

Kickstarter
Well, I am still continue to get frustrated with both projects I mentioned last week. There is still no solid updates from both. In the meantime, I am waiting for the arrival of the other two projects within the next couple of weeks. I will comment more if it turns out to be as equally frustrating.

My first order with Plum Paper Design

Ok, so I mentioned a few times in the previous posts that IĀ purchasedĀ an Plum Paper Design Planner from Etsy!

A quick recapĀ on why I ordered another planner that run from July 2015 to Dec 2016:
1) I keep waiting for a planner that was delayed for 1.5 months!! Crowdfunding.Ā
2) When it finally arrived, I no longer feel the passion to plan/use the planner. And during that period of waiting, I could not get much stuffs done. So I really need a planner!!
3) To avoid facing such problems again, I decided to secure a planner WAY earlier than I needed to avoid having an unorganised life!!Ā

So I placed an order last month and it arrived 2 days ago. It took only 7 days to reach my house in Singapore using UPS Mail Innovation which is very fast!

They mentioned that “International shipments cannot be tracked through the number below. The number that appears below only applies to domestic orders. If you would like an updated tracking number after 48 hours from this email, please contact customer service.”

I didn’t do that as I was able to track the parcel throughout the whole process.

It was shipped in the new box like they posted on Facebook.

I choose the butterfly design and changed the colour scheme. I used my real name so I don’t feel comfortable in showing it šŸ˜›

I am really happy that Plum Paper Design is really flexible in customising the planner! And…. this is a feature you do not have to pay for. So feel free to change it to the way you like it!

Now for the add ons:

I added onĀ another USD9 for additional 6 months so this will cover up to 2016! Safe and secure for the whole year.

I added on anotherĀ $3.50 each for 2 pagesĀ to be dispersed evenly throughout each month rather than all placed at the very back of the planner. I selected notes and to do list as these are the features I would be using extensively.

I added on some stickers for USD5. It was really cheaper to get 4 sheets. And I figured out I would need to use a lot of it during the 18 months anyway!

And…

Happy that my EC band fitted into the planner so well. It just so happened that the colours match perfectly! So yay nothing is wasted. (But I have another extra pack as they shipped wrongly to me :/)

The planner look beautiful. But itĀ is rather huge and heavy as compare to my current planner (Passion Planner). I might need some getting used to it and I need to carry bigger bag!

I cannot comment on other stuffs such as the functionality, durability etc But I will edit this post when I started using it šŸ™‚

My first shopping experience with Etsy

Last month or so, I purchasedĀ an planner, a scarf and a vegan suede pouch/clutch all through Etsy. I am somehow addicted! But of course I am not buying everything I see. It was mainly for surfing when I am bored with Lunar New Year visitation and being in the holiday mood, I wasn’t really into “working” and I was feeling a bit Ā under the weather…I am learning to keep to my life goal by adding into the wish-list and not buy them instantly like what I did for my vegan suede pouch/clutch.

I heard of Etsy a few years back. I never get anything from there as it is mainly handmade stuffs which can cost a bit more than what I have in mind. Honestly I rather get cheap stuffs from Taobao/Amazon/etc. My views have changed since I begin keeping to my life goal. Buying unique and handmade stuffs certainly helps as:
1) They are handmadeĀ so it is supposedly to be much lasting! I don’t know how many times I have came across bags/pouch that was poorly manufactured that it – especially the zip breaks after using it a few times!
2) Unique. So you can’t find it elsewhere. Hence you will want to keep using it. Since you have such a unique product, why pay and buy a second thing that looks just like what everyone else have…Keep that one and unique thing you have
3) Beautiful. e.g. A notebook with your name printed on. Just so awesome that you will keep using!

What I loves about Etsy:
– It’s a HUUGGGGEEEEEEE market for vegan-friendly stuffs. Yay! It is also a larger market for you to get things all over the world. I can shop from Europe without traveling there šŸ˜›
– Buying from Etsy is quick and simple. Just select the options if any and add to the cart and check out. It is just like most online shops. You may need a paypal account as some seller uses only paypal.
– I love it that you can leave note for the seller! This is great for customising your purchases. This is very important if you need to customise/change something. (I changed the colour for my Plum Paper Design Planner and uses this to let the PPD know that I wanted something different and it was delivered as written in my note!)
– The convo is great too as it is probably the quickest way to get in touch with the seller. Great for people who don’t open up their email often. You do not need to install anything to get it works too. Unlike the “chat” thingy on Taobao. I remembered I had to install something to chat with the seller.
– It automatically calculated the shipping date for you! This is the important if you are preparing a gift!
– Tracking function within the website itself. You don’t have to open another tab on your browser just to find out the status.
– I love the app (IOS) version of Etsy. It is the best shopping app I ever use as it never crash and is a ease to shop.

What I don’t like about Etsy:
– Etsy is full of handmade stuffs but not necessary all stuffs are handmade. Seller have to listed as eitherĀ Vintage or Handmade. But there are many stuffs who are neither of them. As an experiencedĀ buyer who shop on various website, I somehow can differentiate if the photos provided are really taken by the seller and whether the products are found elsewhere – Not quite handmade.

E.g. I came across the “vegan leather” clutch. Handmade?

Ā It look exactly like the ones on Taobao/aliexpress. Except that it is likeĀ MUCHĀ cheaper.

Uh, I feel bad for people who actually BUY it šŸ˜¦

– They aren’t very responsiveĀ to “report” issue. I reported another item (a felt fauxdori) in which the seller claimed that they “handmade” this. Which is obviously a lie as I seen the same one at Taobao. I have been checking the listing for every couple of days or so. But it has not been taken down. This kind of seller should be banned! šŸ˜¦

– Maybe I too used to way Taobao listed their items. But I am missing my favourite features – Sort search result according toĀ the no. of reviews/popularity.
– I cannot provideĀ an review BEFORE the calculated shipping date. Which means even if I received it way earlier than the calculated shipping date, I cannot leave any review! This is a feature which I strongly feel that should be changed. Giving the buyer the ability of leaving reviews once received is really important as some buyer just somehow forget to leave an review as the calculated shipping date is too far way.
I also cannot sort reviews according toĀ the particular design thatĀ I am purchasing. This is also one of my favourite function when surfing taobao.
– The tracking email do not show tracking details. When you clicked on it, you have to sign in to view the tracking details which is kinda troublesome if you are using an shared computer or at work.

Now for the pretty stuffs…

Vegan suede clutch/pouch
This is one of prettiest clutch/pouch I have ever come across šŸ™‚ My bad for not reading the measurement carefully. I picked the M size. But I would love it even more if it is bigger. I was indecisive between two sellers. But I finally decided to go for this seller as she has one in tan which is way I have been looking for! Probably will go for the L size next time when I needed it again. I have all sort of pouches at home. But I don’t have one to carry out as an fashion clutch. So this is why I purchased it.

Burgundy Viscose Scarf
I always wanted to buy aĀ really good scarf that doesn’t really break the bank. This doesn’t really break the bank but it wasn’t as cheap either. But I am really happy with it as it is so pretty. It was shipped all the way from Greece! This will be my one and only scarf. I have a few others at home. But they weren’t really scarfĀ as they are all too thin. I am going to throw them away once a hole started to appear.

Plum Paper Design Planner
More details would be posted in the next post. And yes, if you noticed. I changed the colour from this to this. šŸ˜€
